The phenomenon globalization has been on everyone's lips for years and is quite often the target for criticism. Many fear the disappearance of smaller cultures and the creation of world media monopolies. Globalization might be a danger, it all depends on how we handle this new situation and its opportunities. Globalization has helped many nations to increase their growth or even to change their entire political system. The recent arab spring is a good example for democratic values being exported to countries where people once had to suffer from dictatorship. Globalization works on many levels even though many people still tend to consider it a economic phenomenon. But not only companies and employers profit from a globalized world, it has also opened many doors for individuals. People have become more tolerant and are nowadays more likely to integrate different cultures in their society. Statistics on social globalization in different countries can be found here.
Humantarian Aspects of Globalization
As mentioned above, people have become aware of the fact that the plurality of cultures and the interaction between them is something worth being protected. Debates on Human Rights have never been more vivid than in the last decades. People are striving for social, economic and political equality and the same standards on the entire planet. All men are created equal and should thus be treated as such.
Mobilizing to Save the Planet
It is true reality that the planet earth is in endangered by the pollution caused by human activities. The internet has helped spread information that shows this shocking reality and many people have mobilized to change the way of life and to adapt a more responsible one. Saving a planet is an issue that concerns everyone and that should be taken seriously. One country alone won't do the job that is why a globalized society might be a big chance for both nature and people.
